Largest floating solar power plant taking shape on hydropower plant

The world’s largest floating solar power plant is set to be expanded in Indonesia, providing a sustainable solution for generating clean energy. The project, supported by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) and Indonesian utility PLN, aims to reach a total capacity of up to 500 megawatts. Floating solar panels offer several advantages, including conserving land, reducing evaporation, and improving solar cell conversion efficiency through water cooling. However, the unique environment of hydropower reservoirs, such as changing water levels, presents challenges. Masdar and PLN also plan to explore green hydrogen projects alongside their floating solar plans.
