Loongson’s 3A6000 CPU offers significant improvements over its predecessor, the 3A5000, with a new LA664 core that boasts a larger and deeper pipeline with more execution units, plus SMT support for increased multithreaded performance. While the 3A6000 performs admirably well for a 2.5 GHz CPU, it still falls short of catching up to AMD’s newer parts due to its lower clock speed. The branch predictor in the 3A6000 shows impressive capabilities, putting it in line with recent Intel and AMD CPUs, despite still lagging behind Zen 3 architecture. Loongson has made commendable progress in improving branch prediction accuracy and other core architecture elements, bringing it into competition with high performance parts from older AMD and Intel architectures.
