The Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary in Massachusetts is home to around 200 shipwrecks. In an effort to protect these historical artifacts from damage caused by fishing nets and dredges, the sanctuary has implemented a new approach: radical honesty. Rather than keeping shipwreck locations a secret, the sanctuary has started sharing this information with fishermen, who are then warned when they enter a shipwreck avoidance area. This approach aims to create a conversation and collaboration between the sanctuary and fishermen to protect the wrecks and preserve the rich marine habitats they provide.
