macOS Sonoma Boot Failures

macOS Sonoma and macOS Ventura 13.6 have been released, but they come with serious bugs that can result in a black screen during the boot process. This issue can occur on certain models and when multiple macOS versions are installed side by side. Asahi Linux, which behaves like older macOS versions, can also trigger this problem when dual-booting with macOS Sonoma. The bugs are related to the use of older RecoveryOS and compatibility issues with newer firmware. If you experience this issue, you will need to use DFU recovery, but your data will not be lost. MacBook Pro models with ProMotion displays are affected by the black screen boot bug. It is recommended to wait for Apple to fix these issues before upgrading, especially if you have a 14″ or 16″ machine. The Asahi Linux installer has been updated to address the bugs and check compatibility. If you are already affected by the issue, you can try regular recoveryOS boot or booting into System RecoveryOS. If those methods don’t work, you will need to use DFU mode to fix the problem. If you don’t have another Mac to use DFU mode, you can take your Mac to the Apple Store and ask for a DFU Rev
