Magicians less prone to mental disorders than other artists, finds research

A study conducted by Aberystwyth University’s psychology department suggests that magicians may be less prone to mental health difficulties compared to other creative individuals and the general population. The research, published in the journal BJPsych Open, found that magicians scored significantly lower on psychopathological traits and were less likely to experience hallucinations or cognitive disorganization. This study is the first to show a creative group with lower scores on psychotic traits than the general population. Magicians’ ability to overcome social deficits and their precision in executing tricks may contribute to their balanced mental health. The magic community is known for its collaborative and supportive nature.
