The “fly-tailscale-exit” repo provides a way to set up a globally distributed VPN service using tailscale and fly.io. With this setup, users can instantly scale up or down nodes, choose where their traffic exits to, and enjoy solid connections worldwide. While the setup and the first 160GB of traffic each month are free, this approach may not be a good idea for serious VPN replacement as it could cause dirty egress traffic for fly.io and increased traffic on tailscale derp servers. Despite the drawbacks, the author highlights that this VPN setup is easy and fun to use, making it the easiest VPN setup ever.
