Marginalia Search started as a small project to find great content on the Internet and has now become a full-time job. The search engine has made significant progress, moving from a living room server to a professional enterprise server. Recent improvements include zero downtime upgrades and better search results with anchor text keywords. The goal of indexing 1 billion documents is a work in progress due to the web’s signal to noise ratio. The next focus is on improving query parsing and execution. Despite plans, unexpected developments have had the most impact, like the success of anchor texts. Thanks to supporters and users, this project continues to evolve.
