In August 2023, Libera.Chat made the difficult decision to shut down their Matrix bridge operated by Element Matrix Services (EMS). This decision was made due to ongoing stability issues, security vulnerabilities, privacy leaks, and communication deficits with EMS. Despite efforts to work with EMS to address these issues, ongoing problems with message drops and privacy filters led to the escalation of the request to disable the bridge. While this disruption may be inconvenient for users, Libera.Chat hopes that the official EMS bridge will return in the future with improvements. Third-party bridges are not affected by this decision.
