The Alliance is pleased to announce the release of Matter 1.2, the second update to the smart home connectivity standard. This update includes nine new device types, improvements to the specification and software development kit (SDK), and certification and testing tools. Since the release of Matter 1.0 over a year ago, there has been significant growth in downloads, certifications, and new members. Matter has been successful in outpacing the adoption cycles of previous industry standards by allowing existing smart home hubs and devices to become controllers through software updates. The update also introduces new features and enhancements for existing device types.
