Microplastics linked to heart attack, stroke and death

Researchers found that microplastics in the blood vessels of over 200 individuals were associated with an increased risk of heart attacks, strokes, or death. The study, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, did not definitively prove that the plastics caused poor health, as other factors may be at play. Microplastics have been discovered in various areas, including oceans, shellfish, breast milk, and the air. It remains unclear if these particles are harmful to humans, but the presence of microplastics in fatty deposits lining blood vessels may contribute to inflammation and cardiovascular issues. The study’s findings may impact global efforts to address plastic pollution.
