NASA sends cat video over laser from 80 lunar distances

NASA’s Deep Space Optical Communications experiment achieved a major milestone by beaming an ultra-high definition streaming video from a record-setting distance of 19 million miles away. This technology demonstration is aimed at advancing optical communications to enable future human missions beyond Earth orbit. The video signal took 101 seconds to reach Earth, transmitted at a maximum bit rate of 267 Mbps. The demonstration is designed to transmit data from deep space at rates that are 10 to 100 times greater than current radio frequency systems. This breakthrough paves the way for higher data rate communications to support future interplanetary missions, including sending humans to Mars.
