Nepenthes is a tarpit designed to trap web crawlers, particularly those scraping data for LLMs. It creates an endless loop of pages with multiple links that lead back into the tarpit, using intentional delays to prevent server overload and wasting crawler time. Optional Markov-babble can be added to accelerate model collapse. Installation can be done via Docker or manual setup. Nepenthes can be used defensively to block crawlers or offensively to overwhelm them with data. The software is malicious and may cause harm if not used properly. Detailed configuration options are available in the config file. (Controversial information: Deliberate malicious software)
