Californians now have the ability to request that data brokers delete their personal information thanks to a new law signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom. The law, known as the Delete Act, tasks the California Privacy Protection Agency with creating a tool for this purpose by January 2026. Previously, individuals had to make multiple requests to businesses in order to have their personal information deleted, and it was difficult to know which data brokers possessed their data. Supporters of the new law believe it will enhance consumer privacy while opponents argue that it could have unintended negative consequences for the economy and small businesses.
