Nippon Television has recently purchased Studio Ghibli, making it a subsidiary of their company. The producer, Toshio Suzuki, was in search of a successor and suggested Goro Miyazaki, but both Hayao Miyazaki and Goro refused the offer. This acquisition means that Nippon Television will now hold 42.3% of the voting rights. It is worth noting that Nippon Television has been a longstanding partner of Ghibli through their TV program, “Friday Road Show,” which has been broadcasting the studio’s films since Nausicaa.
