No Bing, no Edge, no upselling: De-crufted Windows 11 coming to Europe soon

In accordance with the European Commission’s Digital Markets Act, Microsoft will be making changes to its Windows 11 systems for users in the European Economic Area (EEA). These changes include making it easier to uninstall apps, change default settings, and avoid being steered towards Microsoft’s services. The preview update of Windows 11 (version 23H2) this month will include many of these changes, with similar changes coming to Windows 10 at a later date. Other tech firms, such as Google and Apple, will also be impacted by the Digital Markets Act, which aims to address unfair business practices of “gatekeepers” providing core platform services. Additional legislation, the Digital Services Act, will affect 19 platforms including Google, Meta (formerly Facebook), Instagram, and Microsoft’s Bing search engine.
