No more boot loader: Please use the kernel instead

Red Hat boot loader engineering is developing nmbl to replace GRUB, a complex bootloader with security vulnerabilities that can lag behind Linux kernel updates. Nmbl uses the Linux kernel as its own bootloader, eliminating the need for an additional bootloader like GRUB. This solution, loaded by the EFI stub on UEFI, creates a unified kernel image (UKI) with all necessary components for booting. Red Hat will be presenting their progress on this project and seeking feedback from users. The nmbl project aims to streamline the boot process and increase security by utilizing the Linux kernel’s strengths in fast development and vulnerability responses.
