Norway wants Facebook behavioral advertising banned across Europe

Norway is urging the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) to ban Meta from harvesting user data for advertising purposes on Facebook and Instagram across Europe. The country’s Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet, has been imposing fines on Meta for failing to comply with these regulations. The ban, which was put into place in July, is set to expire on November 3, prompting Norway’s request for a permanent and binding decision. Meta argues that it already has users’ consent for targeted advertising, but the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) ruled that this consent is insufficient. Meta is currently facing GDPR lawsuits in Europe and the UK.
