Oldest known wild bird lays egg at 74

At the age of 74, Wisdom, the world’s oldest known wild bird, has laid an egg with her new partner at the Midway Atoll national wildlife refuge. This Laysan albatross has surpassed her species’ typical lifespan of 12-40 years, having been tagged in 1956. Wisdom has had over 30 chicks and outlived multiple mates, with her latest partner being different from the previous one. Jon Plissner, a supervisory wildlife biologist, expressed amazement at Wisdom’s longevity and widespread popularity. The chances of the egg hatching are high, as albatross parents share incubation and feeding duties. Wisdom’s remarkable story captivates people worldwide.
