Happy New Year, hackers! I wanted to share a personal milestone with you all. The KDE Plasma 5.27 is now available on OpenBSD -current and will be included in the upcoming release 7.5. This has been a long journey, and it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come. I remember when Vadim Zhukov was working on the Qt/KDE area before I joined the OpenBSD community. It’s been a solitary effort for me, just like it was for Vadim. We are a small team of developers, but we’ve managed to make it happen. I’m excited to see what’s next, especially with the switch from Qt5 to Qt6. We have some ideas for future improvements, like fixing the KWin compositor and enhancing Discover support for pkg_add(1). It’s been an amazing accomplishment, and I can’t wait to see what 2024 has in store for us. If you’re interested, you can easily install KDE Plasma and KDE Gear on OpenBSD using the provided commands. Thank you to everyone who supports my work with donations on GitHup.
