OpenWrt One/AP-24.XY: new open source router board by OpenWrt and Banana Pi

OpenWrt developers are working on the development of the “OpenWrt One/AP-24.XY” router board in collaboration with Banana Pi. This router board is based on MediaTek MT7981B SoC and MediaTek MT7976C dual-band WiFi 6 chipset. OpenWrt 23.05 release currently supports nearly 1,800 routers and devices, but this new router board will be created by the OpenWrt developers themselves. The preliminary specifications of the board include a dual-core Cortex-A53 processor, 1GB DDR4 RAM, 128MB SPI NAND flash, and 4MB SPI NOR flash. The goal is to keep the price under $100, and the schematics will be made available under an open-source license. Banana Pi will handle the manufacturing and distribution of the board, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Software Freedom Conservancy. The router board is expected to launch in 2024.
