Original WWW proposal is a Word for Macintosh 4 file from 1990, can we open it?

The original proposal for the World Wide Web by Tim Berners-Lee can be found on the W3C website. However, opening the original document is a challenge. The file is a Microsoft Word for Macintosh 4.0 file, and compatibility with modern software is limited. Microsoft Word, Apple Pages, Apache OpenOffice, and LibreOffice were all tested, with varying degrees of success. The CERN PDF version of the proposal differs from the original document, prompting the author to emulate a 1990-era Macintosh and run Word for Macintosh 4.0 to confirm the original layout. Converting the document was a victory for open-source software, but also highlighted the difficulties of document preservation. Despite the challenges, the author was able to create a high-quality PDF version of the diagrams in the proposal.
