Oxide Computer: Docs

Oxide Computer offers an efficient rack-scale computing system that combines hardware and software. It provides the benefits of cloud hyperscale infrastructure, such as increased developer productivity, but at a lower long-term infrastructure cost. The system includes several components, such as “Gimlet” Compute Sleds with powerful AMD Milan CPUs, front-facing storage devices, and networking capabilities. Sidecar Rack Switches provide connectivity and management features. An integrated power shelf delivers power to the rack, while a custom cabled backplane enables blind mating of servers. The system also includes an integrated control plane with an API and various SDKs for provisioning compute infrastructure, storage, and networking. The rack is designed to be serviceable from the front and offers efficient power distribution and management. Each server utilizes a hardware root-of-trust and an embedded service processor. The system supports virtual machine and network management, providing a self-service experience similar to public clouds. This includes features like virtual private clouds, UDP encapsulation, routing capabilities, and packet transformation. The Oxide Computer system aims to create a single pool of infrastructure from a management and user perspective.
