Paris to bring back swimming in Seine after 100 years

Paris is nearing the completion of a major clean-up project that will allow swimmers and divers back into the River Seine, just in time for the Olympics. The €1.4bn regeneration project has been hailed as a success and will not only enable Olympic events to be held in the river, but also create three open-air swimming areas accessible from the quayside by 2025. The river’s pollution levels have fallen dramatically over the last 20 years, thanks to improvements in drainage infrastructure and a new underground reservoir to store wastewater during heavy rain. Parisians are eager to return to their revitalised river and enjoy its amenities once more.
