Parrots love playing tablet games. That’s helping researchers understand them

Touchscreens have become a key part of our daily lives, and now, research is exploring how animals, like dogs, orcas, and parrots, can benefit from them too. A recent study by Northeastern assistant professor Rébecca Kleinberger and her team found that parrots can play tablet games and interact with touchscreens, leading to cognitive enrichment and improved well-being. The research also discovered that parrots primarily use their tongues to touch the screen and need larger targets for accuracy. As the team works to adapt screen technologies for different species, they hope to bring academic rigor to the pet tech industry and offer valuable guidance to technology developers and pet owners.
