Predictive policing software terrible at predicting crimes

Crime prediction software produced by Geolitica (formerly known as PredPol) has been found to be ineffective in accurately predicting crimes in Plainfield, New Jersey. An analysis by The Markup revealed that less than half a percent of the predictions made by the software were accurate, with only a few predictions lining up with reported crimes. Specifically, predictions for robberies, aggravated assaults, and burglaries showed very low success rates. Additionally, Plainfield officials admitted to never using the software to direct patrols. The article questions the reliability and effectiveness of such tools sold to police departments and highlights the potential negative consequences of inaccurate predictions.
