Exciting news for RISC-V fans: Raspberry Pi is adding support for the open ISA with the Pico 2 and RP2350 microcontroller. Pico 2 board for $5 keeps backwards compatibility, features 520KB memory, 4 MB QSPI flash, and two RISC-V Hazard3 CPU cores. Users can choose between Arm Cortex-M33 and Hazard3 cores at boot time. Eben Upton praises RISC-V for research and configurability. Pico 2 supports FreeRTOS, has 26 GPIO pins, and improved security features. The Pico 2 boasts extra performance with Cortex-M33 cores but comes with a slight price increase over the original Pico. Connectivity options and availability may be limited initially.
