Remembering Larry Finger, who made Linux wireless work

Larry Finger, a devoted contributor to the Linux kernel who passed at 84, had no formal computer training yet left a significant mark. With over 1,400 commits since 2006, Finger focused on improving Linux Wi-Fi when Wi-Fi setup was a nightmare. Known for his work on Broadcom and Realtek drivers, Finger’s code is still utilized today. Apart from coding, Finger wrote on Linux and upgraded a networking system at an RV resort. Despite his lack of training, Finger emphasized starting with small patches and being patient when contributing to Linux. Mentoring others, Finger illustrated that dedication triumphs formal training.
