Rogue, and other roguelikes for Amiga

Rogue is a computer game inspired by early versions of Dungeons and Dragons. It features procedurally generated dungeon maps and offers 26 levels within the Dungeon of Doom. The goal is to search each level to reveal the contents of each quadrant and find the room with a staircase leading down to the next level. The 26th level contains the amulet of Yendor, which players must retrieve and bring back to the surface without dying. The defining characteristics of a “roguelike” game include tactical gameplay, procedural generation, and permanent death. While the exact origins of the roguelike genre are debated, Rogue played a significant role, and it was later followed by games like Hack, Nethack, and Angband. The Amiga port of Rogue is considered the best, as it offers fast-paced gameplay, keyboard-driven controls, and a user-friendly interface.
