The open-source Roundcube webmail software project has merged with Nextcloud, a popular personal cloud software. This merger aims to enhance Nextcloud’s webmail software capabilities. Nextcloud plans to invest in Roundcube in 2024 to expedite the development of this widely-used open-source webmail software. Although there are no immediate changes for Roundcube and Nextcloud users, the press release suggests that improved integration and accelerated development can be expected in the near future. It is worth noting that Roundcube will not replace Nextcloud Mail, and there are currently no plans to merge the two platforms. This collaboration may also bring to fruition some of the original ideas from the failed RoundCube-Next crowdfunding campaign.
