Saying Goodbye to FFmpegKit

As of January 6, 2025, FFmpegKit is officially retired due to time constraints and legal complexities. Maintaining the project became increasingly difficult, with updating to the latest FFmpeg versions requiring more time than available. The legal challenges related to FFmpeg’s licenses and patents also played a significant role in the decision to retire the project. The source code and archives will remain available, but native binaries will be removed from repositories on specific dates. Existing users are advised to consult with IP professionals and build FFmpegKit locally to avoid disruptions in their applications. While retiring FFmpegKit was a tough choice, the author hopes that the project’s legacy will continue with someone else in the future.
