Sextortion Scams Now Include Photos of Your Home

In a new twist on the old “sextortion” email scam, recipients are now receiving messages personalized with their name and a photo of their home. The scam claims to have captured recipients on their webcam watching explicit content, threatening to release the video unless a Bitcoin ransom is paid. The detailed email also mentions a spyware called “Pegasus” and insists on strict secrecy. The FBI advises never sending compromising images, being cautious with email attachments, and covering webcams when not in use. Adult scammers often masquerade as teenagers in these scams that can have serious consequences. Remember, if you’re a victim, contact the FBI.
