Simula – The forgotten programming language

Simula, a programming language designed in 1962, has had a significant impact on the development of other languages such as C++ and Java. However, it never gained the same popularity as older languages like Fortran and COBOL. Despite this, the author was determined to find a way to run Simula and after some searching, came across Gnu Cim. While trying to run Simula, the author encountered some difficulties, but eventually found a browser-based compiler called Portable Simula. The author provides examples of Simula code, including handling numbers and text, defining procedures, and creating classes. Though Simula may not be widely used today, its contributions to the programming world continue to endure.
