‘Smart’ insulin prevents diabetic highs – and deadly lows

Scientists have developed a new type of insulin that can automatically adjust its activity based on blood glucose levels in animals. This “smart” insulin effectively lowers high blood sugar while preventing it from dropping too low. This discovery could revolutionize diabetes treatment. Surprisingly, stem cells reversed a woman’s diabetes in a world-first, while different weight-loss drugs showed varying effectiveness in treating obesity and diabetes. Additionally, a cheap diabetes drug was found to slow brain aging in monkeys, and famine exposure in the womb doubled diabetes risk later in life. A “bionic pancreas” also helped control blood sugar spikes in diabetes patients.
