Spotify has criticized Apple’s compliance with the EU’s Digital Markets Act, calling the new fees imposed on developers “extortion” and Apple’s plan “a complete and total farce.” Apple announced changes to comply with the EU law but introduced new fees that Spotify believes are designed to discourage app developers from using alternative means of distribution. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek argues that the fees would significantly impact their customer acquisition costs and force them to stick with the current system. Epic Games’ CEO Tim Sweeney and the Coalition for App Fairness have also condemned Apple’s plan. Mozilla has criticized Apple’s new browser rules as well.
