Starting January 28, 2025, RDAP will replace WHOIS for accessing gTLD registration information. Developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force, RDAP offers benefits like internationalization support, secure data access, and differentiated user access. ICANN-accredited registrars and gTLDs have been using RDAP since 2019. Users can access ICANN’s RDAP Lookup service or download the open-source command-line client on GitHub. To request nonpublic data, use the RDRS or contact the registrar. Only those with a legitimate interest like law enforcement or cybersecurity professionals should use the RDRS. Make sure to check ICANN Lookup first before requesting data.
