The Sustainable Web Interest Group has been formed by W3C to address the environmental impact of the digital industry, responsible for 2-5% of global emissions, surpassing the aviation industry. The group will publish the Web Sustainability Guidelines, promoting best practices for designing digital products with a focus on people and the planet. The guidelines are aligned with Sustainable Web Manifesto, GRI Standards, and UN Sustainable Development Goals. The group plans to collaborate with regulatory bodies and organizations to improve compliance targets. Chaired by Tim Frick, Ines Akrap, and Mike Gifford, the group aims to enhance measurability and educate on sustainable web practices.
