Taking low-dose aspirin is associated with 20% reduction in cancer deaths

In a new meta-analysis study, the Welsh Aspirin Group at Cardiff University has found that aspirin, an inexpensive and easily accessible medication, could be beneficial in cancer treatments. The research, which analyzed the results of 118 observational studies involving around a million patients, showed that taking a daily low-dose of aspirin was associated with a 20% reduction in deaths from cancer and all causes. Aspirin has been known to increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, but the study concluded that the risks were less serious than bleeding associated with stomach ulcers or infection. Given the relative safety of aspirin, the researchers recommend its promotion as a treatment for cancer worldwide.
