The ancient discovery that put a Silk Road city back on the map

In the remote Himalayas, a family in Ladakh uncovered a treasure trove of Silk Road artifacts, leading to the opening of the Munshi Aziz Bhat Museum. The family’s patriarch, Munshi Aziz Bhat, had been a prominent trader along the ancient route, connecting regions from China to Central Asia and Europe. Despite the dangerous Zoji La mountain pass and the region’s tumultuous history, Muzzamil Hussain, a descendant, has dedicated himself to preserving his family’s legacy through the museum and his travel company, Roots Ladakh. Through their efforts, they hope to change perceptions of Kargil and showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Silk Road.
