Design Thinking is a concept that has gained popularity in design circles and business networks. It has been associated with organizations like Singularity University and IDEO, and individuals at Stanford University’s design school have been pushing and selling Design Thinking. However, the deeper you dig into Design Thinking, the more vague it becomes. Despite this, certain individuals and interests are trying to use Design Thinking to reform higher education and other social institutions. Critics argue that Design Thinking is just another buzzword and lacks tangible evidence of its success. It also reduces design to a linear process and ignores critical thinking and peer criticism. Furthermore, it promotes an elitist vision of change and often leads to a mismatch between designers’ visions and users’ needs.
