The Eyes Have It (1953)

In “The Eyes Have It” by Philip Kindred Dick, the narrator accidentally discovers evidence of an alien invasion on Earth. However, the narrator is unsure of what to do about this revelation and receives no assistance from the government. The story humorously portrays the aliens as beings who can detach and move their eyes and limbs with ease, yet the human characters in the book do not find this strange. The narrator becomes increasingly disturbed by this discovery, and the story ends with the narrator refusing to get involved in the invasion.
