The fun factor of the video game Uplink

Before the age of tablets, middle class families used to share overpriced computers that quickly became slow and cluttered due to children and technologically ignorant adults. It wasn’t until my brother moved out that I truly delved into PC gaming. Uplink, an old hacking game, was recommended to me and it completely changed my life. The interface may be outdated, but it still looks cool. Uplink is a hacking simulator that takes inspiration from movies like Sneakers and Hackers, focusing more on flashiness than realism. The game starts simple, but quickly introduces new concepts and challenges. It may be frustrating at times, but the satisfaction of mastering it is unparalleled. Uplink immersed me in its captivating soundtrack, retrofuturistic visuals, and unique gameplay. It made me realize the potential of game design to tell stories and evoke emotions. While Uplink may not be conventionally fun, it captures the intensity, tension, and paranoia of being a hacker. It’s not about just being fun, but exploring a range of emotions in gaming.
