The Ingenious Cardboard Bed

Humanitaria, a Spanish startup founded by Juan Sanz and J. Alberto Paniagua, aims to use their 20+ years of industrial design experience to improve the response capacity of NGOs in humanitarian situations. Their first invention, a low-cost humanitarian bed made of cardboard, has the potential to significantly increase the efficiency of humanitarian aid. The current beds used by NGOs are expensive, time-consuming to assemble, and not suitable for large-scale transportation. In contrast, Humanitaria’s cardboard bed can be set up in just 5 seconds, supports more weight, and costs 90% less to produce. This innovation has the potential to democratize humanitarian aid and help more people in need. The bed is currently being prepared for testing in upcoming rescue operations by the Spanish Red Cross.
