The last Inca bridge master

In the heart of the Andes, a remarkable tradition persists as Victoriano Arizapana weaves the last Inca suspension bridge from grass, following in the footsteps of his ancestors for over 500 years. The Q’eswachaka bridge, perched precariously over the Apurimac River, is a testament to the ingenuity and engineering prowess of the Inca civilization. Every June, 1,100 people from surrounding communities gather to construct this marvel of engineering, using golden coils of grass as strong as steel. This annual ritual symbolizes the deep connection between the Inca people and nature, showcasing a glimpse into a world long vanished but still alive in the vibrant highlands of Peru.
