The Plot Against Einstein

Albert Einstein arrived in Pasadena, California in 1933 to take up his position as a visiting professor at CalTech. To fund his stay, Einstein was asked to make a speech promoting German-American relations. He agreed and made a public appearance at the Pasadena Auditorium, speaking about the effects of the Depression and the dangers of misusing words. Despite his popularity in America, his speech had minimal impact due to Franklin D. Roosevelt taking office and economic concerns taking precedence. However, this speech marked the beginning of Einstein’s opposition to Hitler and Nazi Germany, as he was Jewish and a target of Nazi hate. Einstein fled Germany and eventually settled in the United States, where he continued his work as a physicist.
