Xerox’s graphical Lisp workstation operating system, Interlisp, is still alive and well. The Medley Interlisp Restoration Project aims to preserve this significant piece of computer history. While many software companies discontinued their products, some people are working tirelessly to open source and modernize them. Interlisp was a versatile environment that included a GUI, an IDE, and powerful applications such as an object-oriented development system and a GUI called Rooms. The project has successfully updated the system to run on modern platforms and there is even a cloud-hosted version available. The team is currently working on improving character set encodings and adding PDF output.
