Former University of Chicago undergrad Sasha Trubetskoy has created a subway-style diagram of the major Roman roads circa 125 AD, drawing inspiration from Stanford’s ORBIS model and the Antonine Itinerary. Combining well-known historic roads with lesser-known ones, the map provides a unique perspective on the vast Roman Empire’s road network. Trubetskoy offers interesting facts like it would take two months to walk from Rome to Byzantium but only a month on horseback. For a small fee, you can receive a high-quality PDF of the map. Also, check out Trubetskoy’s other visually appealing subway maps of Roman roads in Britain, Spain, Portugal, and Italy.
