The TRON Project: How Japan almost ruled IT (2022)

In 1989, the Japanese introduced the world to their “smart house” known as the Tron House. This house was able to think, sense, and act on its own, making life easier for the homeowner. The Tron House was a result of the Tron Project, which aimed to develop a Japanese computing standard for various devices. While some tech consultants were not impressed by the Tron House, visionaries like Bill Gates saw its potential. However, the project was eventually abandoned due to pressure from the US government and fear of restricted access to the American market. This decision ultimately cost Japan the opportunity to become a global authority in IT.
