Unity’s oldest community announces dissolution

It is with sadness that the Boston Unity Group (BUG) announces its final event on September 27th. BUG, founded in 2010, was the world’s first official Unity user group, providing a platform for creators to share their struggles, network, and learn together. BUG’s membership has grown significantly over the years, bringing together a diverse range of game developers and other technology enthusiasts. Unity has played a crucial role in BUG’s success, offering support and resources. However, in recent years, Unity’s focus has shifted away from the gaming industry and its developer communities, prioritizing profit and making controversial changes to its pricing and terms of service. BUG organizers have decided to redirect their efforts towards creating opportunities for all developers, not just Unity users. They encourage their members to join the broader Boston Game Dev meetup group, where they can connect with developers using various platforms. BUG’s final meeting will be a social event held on Zoom, where they will celebrate their 13-year journey and discuss future endeavors. Despite BUG’s end, the organizers emphasize the importance of continuing to support one another and finding new ways to unite as our communities and industry evolve.
