Waymo Layoffs

Waymo, the company known for its self-driving taxis, has announced another round of layoffs, marking the third time this year. A spokesperson for the company stated that these layoffs are part of an internal reorganization process and that only a small number of employees were affected. This comes after Alphabet, Google’s parent company, laid off Waymo employees earlier this year as part of wider layoffs across the tech conglomerate. Exact numbers regarding the layoffs and the remaining number of Waymo employees are not disclosed. Despite these job cuts, Waymo received permission from state regulators in August to expand its operations in San Francisco. Alphabet’s “Other Bets” division, which includes Waymo, generated $285 million in revenue last quarter but also experienced a loss of $813 million. The upcoming earnings call on October 24 may shed more light on the situation.
