Our new compact roundabout along State Route 203 at the intersection with High Rock Road and 203rd Street Southeast south of Monroe is a unique design aimed at reducing crashes and improving traffic flow. Nicknamed the “comma roundabout,” it consists of two nested roundabouts with some twists – like a lane passing through the center islands. The design was carefully crafted to accommodate large vehicles making left turns and fit the existing space while avoiding nearby hills and wetlands. Though different from traditional roundabouts, drivers are urged to follow the same rules for safety. While not everyone is a fan of roundabouts, this innovative design is worth a chance for improved safety and traffic efficiency.
